Global Perspectives and Local Encounters on Islamophobia

Created 31 Oct 2023 | 10 articles

As a category of analysis, Islamophobia is now part of the repertoire of ways we can understand race-making, something that can be historical in provenance, multi-scaler in practice and which draws attention to the racialization of Muslims and Islam in society and politics. To coincide with Islamophobia Awareness Month, we are proud to offer a special collection of past and present articles from Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power. In these particular and yet resonant interventions, Identities authors help us to deepen our understanding of the structure and agency that is at stake in Islamophobia, bringing into focus examples of racialization and refusal that are too often obscured from view.
