About the Journal
The Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development (APJSWD) is published four times a year by the Department of Social Work of the National University of Singapore, in collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Association for Social Work Education. It is an international journal published, seeking to elaborate and disseminate original ideas, innovative practice methods, rigorous analyses of empirical research, and knowledge and skills of problem solving in social work and development, either nationally or internationally, in the Asia-Pacific region.

Aims and Scope

The journal aims to develop and disseminate social work literature that provides linkages among social research, social work education, social work policy and practice, and social development at the national and international levels, in the Asia-Pacific region. It contributes to understanding key social problems and trends in the Asia-Pacific context, as well as to providing forums of effective strategies responding to these emerging challenges.

The journal invites various types of original contributions related to the Asia-Pacific region, including empirical research, theoretical and historical analyses, and critical reviews of policies, programs, legislations, organizations, and practice interventions.

The subject areas of the journal cover the following in the Asia-Pacific region:

  • Ideologies, values and ethics of social work
  • Approaches, methods, techniques and skills of social work
  • Social development and social welfare
  • Administration of voluntary/non-profit organizations
  • Social work within societal governance systems
  • Social service sectors and social work intervention
  • Social work for marginalized groups
  • Social work in social conflict and emergency situations
  • Pedagogical research

Peer Review Process
All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by an Editor, and, if found within the scope for further consideration, to peer review by usually two independent, anonymous expert referees. Submission for articles is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts and all peer reviews are double anonymized.
