Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted the field of education, transforming the methods through which students access information. Many educators express concerns about its potential influence on academic integrity, leading them to implement measures such as restricting its use in on-demand writing or other initiatives aimed at confining learning within the confines of an observable classroom. However, there are strategies available to teachers that harness the capabilities of AI while upholding the rigor and academic integrity of their classrooms. This article seeks to distill commonly employed classroom strategies into practices that can effectively enhance content acquisition while preserving academic integrity. These practices can be summarized as the ABCs of Teaching with AI: Apply, Build, and Collaborate. By utilizing content derived from Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs), teachers can guide students to become responsible users of AI, with a primary focus on instructing Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs). This approach encourages learners to effectively utilize AI for acquiring new information, compiling diverse resources, and subsequently applying their knowledge to their environment through collaboration and innovation.
