Journal overview

Journal of Education for Teaching (JET) publishes original, significant and rigorous contributions to the field of education, both initial and continuing, of teachers. The journal interprets ’teacher education’ in the widest sense, to include articles from or about the work of academic staff involved with, and responsible for, initial teacher education, continued professional development and the broad field of research into the contribution of the higher education sector contribution to the education of teachers.

JET welcomes scholarly discussions of new issues in the field, which would include original and rigorous analyses of the policies and practices involved in preparing people to work in education at any level. JET publishes theoretical, conceptual and qualitative or quantitative empirical studies, funded research projects and review articles, presented as a critical assessment of the material summarised.

Two types of papers are published in JET : substantive research papers of up to 6,000 words, and short pieces of up to a strict limit 1,000 words describing Research-in-Progress. Research-in-Progress pieces present preliminary findings of a larger project still underway, heralding substantive papers to come. Further information about presentation of articles for JET can be found in the Instructions for Authors.

Please note, from 1st January 2022 JET is no longer accepting new Research-in-Practice papers for consideration.
Any submissions received before 31st December 2021 will be reviewed as normal, in addition to any revisions that are requested for submissions already in process.

The emphasis at all times should be on the international dimension of the work presented, to be of interest to our worldwide readership. Manuscripts must be innovative, show strongly justified theorisation, have convincing and well evidenced significance for the field of teacher education beyond the immediate context in which the research has taken place, utilize a critically selected methodology and be written in accurate UK English. If presenting research that has involved collecting data from participants, it is essential to describe the ethical protocols used. The Executive Editor is happy to advise any author(s) who might be unsure if their paper(s) are appropriate for the journal.
