Volume 44 Issue 1 of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management

The first issue of volume 44 includes five manuscripts. First, Guinness et al. examine the effects of feedback timing on functional analysis implementation. Functional analysis is a useful tool in applied behavior analysis, and training staff members to conduct functional analyses is important. These researchers compared delivery of feedback before and after performance of a functional analysis. The results are fascinating and should be of interest to those working in settings in which functional analyses are routinely conducted.

Next, Grill et al. create and evaluate a manual for behavioral leadership training. They compare pre- and post-questionnaire responses for two groups of participants. The results are very interesting and suggest that manualized leadership training based on behavior analytic principles might be an efficient and effective method to improve organizational performance.

Schulz et al. examine the use of group-based behavioral skills training (BST) to improve the performance of peer support workers supporting individuals with mental illness or substance abuse. This is a great example of the application of behavior analysis to a novel population. Group-based BST also represents an efficient method of training.

Fullerton et al. present a creative and fascinating evaluation of the use of various signs to prevent visitors from touching museum displays. These researchers even incorporated an observing response, which required the visitor to walk to the back of the sign to read a message. The results are very interesting and should be useful to anyone charged with managing the behavior of people in public settings.

Finally, Courtemanche et al. present a fascinating study on the relationship between reported stress and procedural fidelity of staff members working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The results are not what you would expect! This study is a must-read for anyone applying organizational behavior management in human service settings.
