BRITISH SILURIAN STROMATOPOROIDS. FAUNAS, PALAEOBIOLOGY, AND PALAEOGEOGRAPHICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Article title: BRITISH SILURIAN STROMATOPOROIDS. FAUNAS, PALAEOBIOLOGY,

AND PALAEOGEOGRAPHICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Authors: STEPHEN KERSHAW, ANNE-CHRISTINE DA SILVA & CONSUELO SENDINO

We wish to record that the spelling of the stromatoporoid taxon Lophiostroma schmidtii is incorrectly stated as Lophiostroma schmidti throughout the work by Kershaw et al. (2021). We draw attention to the note by Webby (2015, page 750), which states: “Nicholson’s original spelling of the species name with its double “ii” termination is retained, in accordance with ICZN Art. 33.4 (1999) rather than schmidti (see Galloway, 1957, p. 439; Nestor, 1966a, p. 60; Flügel & Flügel-Kahler, 1968, p. 381; Mori, 1970, p. 141), which is deemed to be an incorrect subsequent spelling”.

Readers are therefore asked to note this correction, so that Lophiostroma schmidtii should be used as the correct form for this taxon.
