Journal overview

The European Review of Social Psychology (ERSP) is an international peer-reviewed journal, published under the auspices of the European Association of Social Psychology. It provides an outlet for substantial, theory-based reviews of empirical work addressing the full range of topics covered by the field of social psychology. Potential authorship is international, and papers are handled with the help of an international editorial board with extensive experience in theorizing, research, and journal editing. To do justice to the quality and diversity of perspectives and topics in our field, we welcome open submissions from all around the globe, and also actively invite submissions relevant to the journal and the broader field.

Articles published in ERSP typically (1) review a programme of the author(s)’s own empirical research (with quality evidenced by multiple articles published in peer-reviewed journals), and (2) theoretically locate this research programme within a wider body of published research in that area, and if possible beyond. This includes acknowledging and generating connections with a broader literature, and we value in particular efforts toward theoretical integration (such that the contribution of the article is greater than the sum of the published articles on which the review piece is based). ERSP is also open to meta-analyses as long as those serve a similar purpose. For such typical ERSP publications, we welcome submissions that fit these criteria (for more details, please see our submission checklist and our evaluation criteria ). Before sending a full submission, however, we recommend authors contact the editors with a short proposal for it to be assessed against these criteria.

Less typically (e.g., on invitation or special occasion), ERSP also publishes conventional reviews of scientifically and/or societally relevant topics, and critical reflections on the field. ERSP may also, on occasion or invitation, publish target articles and commentaries. Authors interested in publishing such less typical contributions in ERSP should always first contact the editors with a short proposal to discuss their ideas.

ERSP does not publish original empirical studies.

Peer Review Integrity

All published (invited and openly submitted) ERSP articles have undergone rigorous peer-review , based on initial screening and refereeing by the Editors and at least two independent, expert referees.
