Journal overview

Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education is a fully peer-reviewed, international journal publishing contemporary studies of education theory, policy and practice that provide new theoretical, methodological or empirical perspectives.

We publish articles that make original contributions to contemporary debates on social, cultural and political configurations of education. All submissions must have a substantive focus on formal or informal education and be significant to an international readership.

The journal adopts a broadly critical orientation, but is not tied to particular ideological, theoretical or methodological positions. We publish articles from various disciplinary perspectives, including comparative education, cultural studies, sociology, philosophy, history, geography and political science. We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and the use of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

The journal supports innovative research designs and creative approaches to representation. All submissions must be rigorous in terms of the criteria applied in the field of study and should clearly articulate the main issue or question in relation to the appropriate literature. The analyses, findings and conclusions should provide new insights into theory, methodology and/or empirical contexts. If the study pertains to a very specific or local issue, its wider implications must be made explicit so that the paper has relevance to a broad, international readership.

The journal publishes (1) original research articles, (2) commentary papers and symposia, (3) papers presenting innovations in theory, methodology and method; and (4) review essays. We welcome proposals for special issues.

Peer Review Policy:
All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous double-anonymized peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees. The list of reviewers for each year is published in the final number of the journal for that year.
