Journal overview

Aims and Scope: The Journal of Motor Behavior,a multidisciplinary journal of movement neuroscience, publishes articles that contribute to a basic understanding of motor control mechanisms. Articles from different disciplinary perspectives and levels of analysis are encouraged, including neurophysiological, biomechanical, electrophysiological, psychological, mathematical and physical, and clinical approaches. Applied studies are acceptable only to the extent that they provide a significant contribution to a basic issue in motor control. Of special interest to the journal are those articles that attempt to bridge insights from different disciplinary perspectives to infer processes underlying motor control. Those approaches may embrace postural, locomotive, and manipulative aspects of motor functions, as well as coordination of speech articulators and eye movements. Articles dealing with analytical techniques and mathematical modeling are welcome.

In addition to reports of original research, the journal encourages theoretical and review articles and publishes notes and comments devoted to replications, criticisms, replies, or shorter articles presenting new and stimulating ideas. The journal will entertain proposals from guest editors who would like to devote all or part of one issue to a group of papers concerned with a common theme. Occasionally, there is a letters to the editors section for brief and informal statements on issues of concern to the readership.

The journal also publishes Rapid Communications, short (up to four pages, including references, figures, and tables) articles that showcase exciting new findings. Articles for that section must be in the appropriate format.

Submissions to the Journal of Motor Behavior are subject to a rigorous single anonymized peer review process, in which the reviewer's name is not disclosed to the authors. Submissions are initially screened by our editors, and if appropriate, independent expert referees are solicited. Following author revisions, an accepted article constitutes the final, definitive, and citable Version of Scholarly Record.
