Ruminants Nutrition and Feeding

Section Editor(s): Federica Cheli, University of Milano (Italy)

Ruminants and ruminant feed sector have an important position in global agriculture and in agri-food chain, and play a critical role for environment, sustainability, circular and bioeconomy. Sustainable ruminant nutrition and feeding can increase the efficiency and profitability of production, optimise rumen and gut function and overall animal welfare, enhance end-product quality, and mitigate environmental impacts. Nutrient recovery through ruminant nutrition from innovative, alternative feed and feed ingredients emerging from the circular economy is a key challenge to optimise the use of available resources. Manuscripts characterized by novelty, originality, and international relevance on basic and applied research in the field of ruminant nutrition and feeding are welcome. In vitro studies to evaluate the nutritive value and methanogenesis of ruminant feeds supporting in vivo findings are considered. They must comply with 'Guidelines for in vitro studies in animal nutrition’.
